Indeed, the coastal city of Sihanoukville and it’s nearby islands continue to attract travelers seeking the road slightly less traveled. Despite a recent tourist boom, one can still enjoy the low-key atmosphere, outdoor activities, and stunning scenery that this area has to offer. Here is list of the top 10 things to do in Sihanoukville.

1) Snorkeling

A variety of snorkeling trips are available around Sihanoukville, some with English speaking guides. Daytime trips provide ample opportunity to view marine life. It is also highly recommended that you book a nighttime outing in order to view the naturally glowing plankton—the fluorescent sea animals are truly a spectacular site.

2) Serendipity Nightlife

Serendipity beach may not be the most beautiful (it’s frequently trashed) but it’s the best option if you’re looking to let loose without breaking the bank. Several backpacker bars are located along the waterfront and are known to rage well into the early hours. Alcohol is especially cheap (bars frequently give away free drink coupons).

3) Koh Rong

A two-hour boat ride away from Serendipity beach, this tiny island is becoming increasingly popular with travelers. Most visitors stay in one of a handful of guesthouses located near the dock. Although the laid-back atmosphere is what attracts most to this island, activities like snorkeling and scuba diving are also popular. As far as nightlife goes, most places shut off power around midnight, but Mango Bar stays open late.

4) Ream National Park

Book a boat trip to see this national park. The ride on the river will give you a rare glimpse of this diverse and stunning natural scenery. It’s a must see—as it is rumored that Chinese development in poised to destroy the park.

5) Rent a Motorbike

See the countryside for yourself by renting a motorbike. You can cruise along the coast, visit various beaches, or venture to the nearby town of Kampot. Bikes can be rented for a reasonable price. Just make sure to use caution.
